I have piles of paintings all around my room at the moment, landscapes, printmaking and life drawings - good in a way, but such a backlog of unfinished blog posts to do!

So I'll be brief and get some images up for now. These are from the Tuesday evening untutored Life Classes at The Hive in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. 7pm - 9pm. Come along if you want. £8 on the door.

A few images from tonights life class. I haven't been to life class for I don't know how many weeks ...because I've been in the woods making other stuff.

Dave managed to acquire a Canadian adonis of a male model for the session. Truly an amazing physique which only reminded me of the Michelangelo statues. I could in no way do justice to the figure standing in front of me. What a pity! What a real pity!

Oswestry exhibition pics

Here are some photos of me putting up the life drawing and figurative part of my exhibition in Oswestry at the end of March.

We got their late due to motorway traffic and then I had to do the photographs for the local paper...it was a big exhibition to put up, but my lovely mum helped me out and we got it up in record time. It was a difficult exhibition to hang as the building is so wonky upstairs...and the hanging system a little archaic. Life drawing and figurative work went mostly in the upstairs room. Landscapes are round the cafe downstairs.

A productive session with nice curves from the model and a beer with the group afterwards to chat about our work. Here are my two favourites from this evening. 16th Feb 2010 - Shrewsbury Life Drawing Class

Today I used the very cheap A1 grey sugar paper to paint on provided by the Life Drawing Class at the Shrewsbury HIVE. I like working large but it's expensive when you work very quickly. I also used inks as well as watercolours this week and changed styles a few times during the session.

Most of this sessions paintings were around A4 size..a small size for me which seems to cramp my style. Feeling a bit out of practice after being in Italy for 11 weeks only painting landscapes. Hoping to get back into the flow again.

I liked the way this turned out - the sharp contrasts in light and dark. Finally I'm up to date with the blog, I'm trying to post the most interesting paintings now, or ones that I feel like I'm getting somewhere - all the artists out there know what I mean.

This was a great model to paint, lots of nice curves, muscle and good shapes, we had some ropes seet up at the front of the stage for a few more dynamic paintings. This was another week of A1 large scape watercolour paintings.

SOmetimes you're given a very difficult pose by the model, I decided to paint this one as if it were a landscape - bumps and hills abnd try and turn the brain off from thinking about where the arms and legs should be.

I've tried using ooil on board for these two studies from the previous weeks life drawing class images I really liked. It's nice to be able to work into something over a period of time, but the drying takes too long!

Sometimes a painting comes along and really stands out, I love these new ones, bold acrylic bands on white. I'm trying to paint inside and outside of the body, almost as if the body was being sculpted out of white marble...

Series of paintings of Alex (life model) in a 2 hour life class, in watercolour and watercolour pencil. Here I'm exploring the fluidity of the water on the paper, and exploring depicting the movement of light over the body as a ray that doesn't just hit the body but carries on into the surrounding space (even though we can't sometimes see this).

I need some wider brushes, at the moment I have a 2" wide flat brush, but would enjoy making 4" wide stokes. Painted on 3rd Feb 2009 at life class in watercolours, A1 size.

First blog experience, here we go... I've been cataloguing my work for a few years already (even before this 'blog craze' took off) from the start of my life drawing experiences a few terms of classes a couple of years ago, and since January 2008 I've regularly been going to life classes once a week. Now (February 2009) it's time to start putting the work out there, and see what happens.

Without an audience to respond to your work, well you're in a big bubble of ideas. I'll share some of my ideas and mistakes along the way and you can tell me what works and what doesn't work for you!
